Film previews

May film previews

Firstly it’s worth checking out the Edinburgh Film Festival as the tickets go on sale on 8th May. It’s early this year too, rather being in the middle of the Fringe it’s in June. Which is definitely a good thing, it can finally stand on it’s own. Anyway on to the films out this month…

They’ve finally made a Sex and the City which is obviously to top up their pension fund and I will most likely get dragged along to.

Right now we have Iron Man which is well worth seeing. Also on the comic book front we have Superhero movie , which looks like a decent spoof with Leslie Neilson in the supporting cast. More on the comic front is Speed Racer which might fall into the so so so bad it’s almost fun. The trailer looks really colourful and will probably be painful to watch, it’s put together by the Wachowski brothers.

Doomsday sounds fun, Scotland is closed by a deadly virus, it looks like everyone is dead but the Neds survived. Well something like that anyway, it’ll probably be yet another 28 Days Later rip-off.

Finally we have the long awaited Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Crystal Skull and he’s battling the Russians.

There is the usual load of wedding movies which are usually crap but I end up getting dragged along to.

Anyway, hope they helped you choose…

February UK movie preview

Cindy and I have a pass for Cineworld, it’s 10 minutes walk and it’s really good value. As much as I love indie movies I like see lots of movies more.

I prefer sci-fi but it’s rarely done well, as I get older I’m becoming sensitised to horrors, zombies and thrillers which wouldn’t have bothered me before. Also the current crop are very real, very tense and NO FUN. 30 Days of Night is the most recent example I can think of. Michel Gondry, The Coen Brothers, Charlie Kauffman and Pedro Almodóvar are amoung my favorite writers and directors.

Cindy “doesn’t care right now” about the films she likes because she’s really sick. Although she’s into Bollywood films, Action movies and the occasional chick flick. I watch most of what Cindy wants to, except Bollywood films, but I’ll watch them eventually.

Anyway on to the upcoming releases, as brought to you by Cineworld Unlimited and the Skinny. Jumpering out me straight away is Jumper, which reminds me of a Demolition Man type future, perhaps due to Samuel L Jacksons hair-do. Be Kind Rewind is a must see and I can’t wait to see how Michel Gondry follows up the science of sleep. I’m impressed with Mos Def as an actor so far and Jack Black looks almost bearable. If I need to get a headache fast I’ll be popping into see Cloverfield and I’ll sample the hype, I love Lost so I’m hoping this will be worth waiting for.

Cindy already saw Over Her Dead Body and recommended it for a laugh. The Bucket List is growing on me, pherhaps just to see these actors (Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman) on screen together. Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead got 5 starts in the Skinny so might be worth it, they have picky reviewers. Finally Gamerz looks interesting, it’s part of the Glasgow film festival and it’s on just one night. I hope I remember!

That’s it for this month, hopefully I’ll get better at this, or Cindy will write it next time.
